The weather has been so nice lately that it has taken me outside instead of into my sewing studio. I have for the last three weekends been cleaning up from winter and getting ready for Spring. I have flowers up and my rhubarb is growing a little everyday. I love waking up to the birds singing outside ….you just cannot help but be HAPPY!
I have managed to put together these two lovely little lap quilts. I just love how the colors bring to mind Spring. The one on the left is called “Five and Dime” from the book Loose Change by Kansas Troubles Quilters. It uses one Layer Cake and one Charm pack. In mine, I used one Moda Layer Cake – Cherish Nature by Deb Strain and one random Moda Charm pack that I had in my stash. One of the things I love most about Moda is that they always go together no matter when you bought the fabric. I have always had great success in the colors matching well……between new and old lines of fabric.
The quilt on the right is a loving treasure …..as it was in a gifted stash share from a dear friend of mine. She had cut out the pieces but as time would have it, was not able to put it together. It instead found it’s way to me. 🙂 The pattern is called “Summer Breeze” from the book Scrap-Basket Surprises by Kim Brackett. All I added was the white background fabric; in this case it is Snow from Kona. I chose not to add the border that the pattern called for because I liked the modern feel of the quilt, as it is. I love how it turned out.
One of the main reasons; I love taking on someone’s UFO projects is the unexpected fabrics I get to work with. I am known amongst my friends: as the friend to pass these kind of projects along to, because I will in fact; finish them. They get to see their UFO completed and I am rewarded with a treasured gift.
Until next time…….look at the every changing landscapes of Spring and new growth.
